Are you an iPhone 3G or 3GS user who is reluctant to update to iOS 4.2.1 because you’re worry that you may screw up your phone and losing your unlock?

UPDATE: You can now make your AT&T iPhone permanently and officially unlocked.

There is a big gap in terms of features between your current iOS and 4.2.1 so you shouldn’t miss out on this. Many news cool apps and games also need iOS4.0+ and above.

Sn0wbreeze 2.2 which was released recently is the best tool for this job.

What you need:

1. Sn0wbreeze 2.2
2. iOS 4.2.1 original firmware (IPSW) for iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS
3. The latest iTunes

Steps:

1. Backup your device.
2. Save your SHSH if you haven’t done so.
3. Run sn0wbreeze and point it to the original IPSW that you just downloaded
4. If you’re new to sn0wbreeze, just use Simple Mode and follow on screen instructions
5. sn0wbreeze will create the custom firmware for you. Once the custom IPSW is created, sn0wbreeze will guide you to put your device into DFU mode so that it can accept custom firmware.
6. Launch iTunes and do a Shift+Restore and point it to the custom IPSW (the file is saved to your desktop with the file name prefix sn0wbreeze_xxxx).
7. Once done, unlock your iPhone with ultrasn0w.

Note: redsn0w can also pawn DFU your device. You can skip the steps above and use these ready made custom IPSW made with sn0wbreeze:
